The adventure typically begins with a guided horseback ride through Jamaica’s countryside. You’ll pass by lush forests, tranquil farmlands, and historic colonial-era estates. Guides often provide commentary on the region’s rich history, culture, and local flora and fauna.
Swimming with the Horses: This is often highlighted as the most thrilling part of the tour. Guides will unsaddle the horses, and you will ride them bareback into the warm Caribbean Sea. The horses are well-trained to swim, providing a memorable and exhilarating experience. You can splash around in the water with your equine companion before heading back to shore.
River Tubing: You begin this excursion with your guide directing you to the registration office for check in and mandatory signing of a waiver form. After you’ve signed the waiver, you will be given a helmet and led outside to be fitted with your life jacket and propulsion gloves. You then receive some final safety instructions from your tour guide and then follow him across the IRIE Bridge and into the rain forest. Your 7 minute walk along the jungle path leads you to the launching point of your river adventure.
You’ll hop into a comfortable inner tube and let the gentle current carry you along a three-mile stretch of one of Jamaica’s most picturesque rivers. The journey is a perfect blend of relaxation and excitement. You’ll float across limestone riverbeds, drift under arching bamboo, and glide past a historic coconut plantation, all while surrounded by the vibrant flora and fauna of the tropical jungle.
While the river has some calm, tranquil sections, there are also gentle rapids that add a touch of exhilaration to the ride. Your guides will be with you every step of the way, singing, telling jokes, and providing fascinating information about the island’s history and culture. They’ll also ensure your safety and help you navigate if you get stuck along the bank.
